In 1870, prior to the large wave of Italian immigrants to the United States, there were fewer than 25,000 Italian immigrants in America, many of them Northern Italian refugees from the wars that accompanied the Risorgimento-the struggle for Italian reunification and independence from foreign rule which ended in 1870. Initially, many Italian immigrants (usually single men), so-called "birds of passage", sent remittance back to their families in Italy and, eventually, returned to Italy however, many other immigrants eventually stayed in the United States, creating the large Italian American communities that exist today. īetween 18 approximately 5.5 million Italians migrated from Italy to the United States during the Italian diaspora, in several distinct waves, with the greatest number arriving in the 20th century from Southern Italy. The largest concentrations of Italian Americans are in the urban Northeast and industrial Midwestern metropolitan areas, with significant communities also residing in many other major U.S. According to the Italian American Studies Association, the current population is about 18 million, an increase from 16 million in 2010, corresponding to about 5.4% of the total population of the United States. Myself and the other people in my dream were entering and leaving elevators. The room was purple (lilac neon lit) and other people were there (nobody spoke to me, they just glanced and walked by me). Two nights ago I had a dream (well, I think it was a dream) where I was flying through space at incredible speeds and it was kind of like how a time travel or vortex is depicted on TV and I could see space rock and planets whooshing past as I hurtled through this vortex until I started to descend at an equally as fast speed into some kind of room. I do however use Mirtazipine to promote sleep but only on occasion* *NOTE* I don’t smoke or take illegal drugs. I hope you can help me! This is going to sound like all kinds of twisted and you will probably think I’ve been smoking something but here goes… I hope this helps, sorry again that I didn’t see your message before. So when you encounter fear, examine it, go into it… and release it if you can. I think it’s actually something we can all benefit from – but fear is pretty pointless, as it paralyses us and prevents us from living our fullest life. This sounds simple (and it is) but it can be very effective.Īnother way of engaging with your fear is to follow your questions about life and death to their conclusions – it is good (in my view) to consider the nature of the universe, and wonder what happens after death. You could try lying down, relaxing, and imaginatively re-entering one of your childhood falling dreams, only this time the adult you is there to reassure and comfort your younger self, supporting her in your arms or telling her a funny story, whatever feels right. I think your fear could well be related to these childhood experiences, but the good thing is, there are ways of liberating yourself from this fear. It has to do with the transition between wake and sleep, hence the expression “falling asleep”, but it also elicits a cosmic awareness of the self as tiny and helpless, lost in infinity. Many children have the experience you relate here, of falling endlessly through space. I only saw this message now – sorry for the delay. In the void we are able to just ‘be’ in a way that is almost impossible in the crazy multi-sensory fiesta of dreams and waking life. It can be the most restful, beautiful experience just to hang out in the lucid void, free from physical aches and pains, free from sensory distractions. However bumpy the ride, once we arrive, we are lucid in this vast space – effortlessly lucid. There is nothing here, just millions of greyish dots and I am one of the dots… A feeling of great peace comes over me and a sense of gentle, infinite expansion… I am suspended in space – dream space, I think. I’m not frightened but it’s all I can do to hold onto my lucidity as I am sucked along into spirals of this color and light… I am propelled out of the bottom of it into a motionless space. I’m dreaming, I realize, and immediately the dreamscape bucks and swirls, tipping me over into a shooting flight, down and down at an incredible speed into a rainbow-colored vortex which seems to be made up of an infinite number of dots. People struggle to wake up and if they can’t, they panic.Īlso, a trip to the void can involve disorienting sensations of rocketing along, being tossed around or falling steeply, as in this example of my own from twenty years ago: It’s like floating bodiless in nothingness, so at first it feels nothing like regular lucid dreaming. Why do some people find the lucid void scary?īecause in the void, we have nothing familiar to cling to in terms of imagery and spatial sense. The crescendo was so loud that I woke up… to a silent bedroom. I hung there for a while wondering if this was an OBE or just a very boring lucid dream, before amusing myself by building up an invisible orchestra, instrument by instrument, to thunderous and realistic effect, despite the fact that the height of my waking-life musical ability amounted to playing ‘Three Blind Mice’ on the recorder when I was seven. I call it ‘the gap between dreams’ because this is dream space, there’s just no imagery.Īlthough some people might initially experience the void as a scary space, if you relax and give it a chance, the void is actually full of creative and meditative potential.īack in the days when the void was not a common experience for me, I once found myself floating in infinite black space. This experience of black space (or grey space, or countless dots of light) when you’re asleep is often known as the ‘void’. Have you ever found yourself floating in infinite space?

I doubt it.Given how good last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake was it does make complete sense to try the same trick with its immediate sequel, since both games are set just a few hours apart, after Racoon City is ravaged by the T-virus and almost everyone is turned into a zombie. Once the game is over, you can purchase some items from the shop to enhance your next playthroughs like medals that grant health regen and over-powered weapons like a laser gun. While it lacks some iconic areas and enemies, it does keep you at the edge of your seat as you face some rather deadly threats. Resident Evil 3 Remake manages to deliver a somewhat authentic remake of the classic game. Do I wish there was more to it? Definitely, as the game was over way too soon. Mixing ammo on the fly to make acid rounds to burn the zombies alive, micromanaging the limited inventory space to carry just one more green herb and the intense boss fights with Nemesis. While the game is missing some vital areas and enemies, a playthrough of Resident Evil 3 is still fun and enjoyable. I was just dying to come face to face with a giant spider while exploring the dark park at night. This was quite a letdown as the park was one of my favourite areas from the game. I don’t know if I missed it somehow but I completed the game twice during my review and the story just did not go there at all. No Grave Digger also means there’s no Racoon City Park in the game at all. No deadly crows, no Sliding Worm, no Giant Spider, no Smaller Spiders and no Grave Digger. The game is missing a lot of older content found in the original. There’s also the Brain Suckers that are found in one section of the game. Apart from the traditional zombies, I came into contact with four dogs, a handful of Hunter Gammas and Hunter Gamma Ys. Gameplay variety in Resident Evil 3 falls short at times. You are always looking to save ammunition too as the game does not provide endless supplies of it at every turn.ĭo I wish there was more to it? Definitely, as the game was over way too soon. Using these objects came in handy as there are parts in the game where the undead hordes get out of control. Oil drums when shot explode and live electrical outlets send off a powerful stun to enemies around it. You can now also use your environment to attack, damage and stun enemies. Carlos, on the other hand, can dodge and perform a powerful punch attack that can knock zombies off their feet. Jill can time her dodge perfectly to quickly move out of an attack radius rendering it useless. Luckily, the game adds a few movement options that were not seen in Resident Evil 2 such as the ability to quick-dodge an incoming attack. The franchise’s iconic point and shoot action, intense item management and great puzzle-solving make every moment in Resident Evil 3 enjoyable even if you are being gnawed at the neck by an annoying zombie which you could not kill because you did not have any damn ammunition. However, the gameplay mostly remains the same for both playable characters. The game jumps between you taking control of both Jill and a rugged UBCS hired mercenary named Carlos Oliveira. What starts out as a simple escape plan turns into a mission to find a vaccine for this deadly virus. The dead now walk the streets and a deadly lab-made creature known as Nemesis hunts her down at every opportunity. Following in the original game’s footsteps, Resident Evil 3 follows the story of Jill Valentine as she tries to escape Racoon City which has just suffered a deadly outbreak of the t-virus. If it was not running through the streets of Raccoon City shooting the undead in the head, it was solving the various puzzles that lay in wait throughout the game’s progression. Luckily the adventure through the game makes it worthwhile as Resident Evil 3 has some fantastic action-packed moments that lean away from survival horror and more into an action game. You can’t really complain about this as the original release suffered from the same issue. We finished it and collected almost everything, died a few times and left the game afk quite often in under 7 hours making this trip to Racoon City a brief one. Much shorter than the second game and you clock it on the “Assisted Mode” in under three hours. With that being said, if you had to write the story of the game on a piece of paper, it would fill less than half of the page. Corn syrup off the shelf has been processed into liquid form to be used as easily as any other type of cooking or baking ingredient. This clear bottle of liquid can be found on your grocery store shelves. Like many plants, agave likely has some health benefits but because refining and processing transforms the raw product so greatly from what nature intended sometimes those properties get lost or diminished over time due to heavy handling during cultivation/processing procedures such as heating up with steam until their natural sugar content liquefiesĪgave nectar/syrup can be found in various health food stores marketed as diabetic-friendly and not spiking blood glucose levels as regular table sugar does – however research has also shown traces of other unnatural substances so sometimes an informed consumer must weigh benefits with risks before making their final decision.īelow I have compiled a list of alternatives that are worth considering before making your final decision about agave syrup. It also produces sugars that are fermented into tequila which is one of Mexico’s best-known exports today. Although it has been used in Mexico for centuries, its sap was boiled to produce a sweetener known as miel de agave. The agave plant is native to the Southern United States and Latin America. There are plenty of other options! This blog post will list 9 substitutes for agave and all the different uses they have in cooking and the health benefits of each. But what if you can’t have agave? Fear not. One example that has become increasingly popular as a substitute for white sugar is agave nectar or syrup – although some people will argue whether this sweetener should be considered natural because there have been reports claiming artificial ingredients are often used during processing!Īgave nectars are one of the most popular sweeteners for people who follow a plant-based diet. It’s one of the few things all experts agree on, but unfortunately, it’s still prevalent in many foods and drinks today. |
